VHSL state tournaments - what you can do?

Wrestling Parents, Coaches & Fans,

We know that everyone is upset about the fact that our hard working athletes were robbed of a true state tournament. When you voice your opinion - hit them with facts instead of emotional/ personal stories (long distances traveled to regionals, money spent traveling, families that can not afford the travel, local regional rivalries that no longer exist, etc).

First - contact your state delegate

1. Go to: http://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/

2. Type in your address

3. Call your state delegate OR email him/her with "VHSL Wrestling" as the subject and tell them how you feel.

Number Two - Contact your principal and/or athletic director

email or call them before the VHSL membership meeting on March 11th where they can voice their opinion.

Talking Points

- 336 wrestlers lost in the 1st round and did not get the opportunity to wrestle back for 3rd place.

- The VHSL did not have a bad-weather contingency plan for Salem or Fairfax tournaments.

- Our experienced body of high school coaches (who run tons of high school tournaments all winter) were never consulted about possible solutions.

-Swimming and gymnastics events that were held the same weekend were partially completed and are scheduled to be completed next weekend. Wrestling was not given this option.

-Robinson Secondary School offered to roll out extra mats and execute a tournament with full wrestlebacks, but this offer was turned down by the VHSL.
