Top Ten Team Analysis

This will be the final team ranking for the 2014-2015 season. Hereafter, it’s up to the wrestlers to determine who should be in the VISAA Top Ten.

But for some changes at the bottom of this range, the Top Ten remains the same. #1 Liberty Christian overwhelmed the competition at the VIC Tournament even while resting a few of their starters. The Bulldogs remain the favorite to win the VISAA Tournament. At the same time, Benedictine and St. Christopher’s solidified their positions at #2 and #3. With both teams resting a top wrestler, the Cadets and Saints finished 3rd and 4th at the St. Albans Tournament. That the separation was a mere 5-1/2 points illustrates the competition that will take place at Hermitage High School. The difference among these three teams is down to a single wrestler.

1. Liberty Christian, 19-0

2. Benedictine, 19-4

3. St. Christopher's, 15-9

#4 Paul VI and #5 St. Stephen's & St. Agnes both pulled out of the St. Alban’s Tournament for reasons unknown. Unfortunately, this has been an injury-plagued season. Hopefully, their absence was nothing more than a bit of rest before the Richmond mixer.

4. Paul VI Catholic, 16-9

5. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, 12-7

#6 Peninsula Catholic followed-up their regular season title with their first TCIS Tournament win. The Knights prevailed in a tournament that saw multiple competitive moves among the top three teams to gain a scoring advantage. #8 Woodberry Forest moves up a spot after finishing 10th at St. Alban’s and Covenant drops out after placing 3rd at the VIC. #9 Norfolk Academy moves into the Top Ten with their second at the TCIS. Despite the lower result at the TCIS, #7 Cape Henry remains ahead of the Bulldogs for reasons previously stated. This inversion illustrates the fine lines that separate the pack from #6 to beyond the Top Ten.

6. Peninsula Catholic, 18-0

7. Cape Henry Collegiate, 5-5

8. Woodberry Forest, 5-9

9. Norfolk Academy, 4-3

10. Fishburne Military, 9-2

With a second place at the VIC, #10 Fishburne Military moves into the Top Ten. The Caissons will have to fire on all cylinders at Hermitage to fight off the bids from a number of teams including Bishop O’Connell, Covenant, Fork Union and Episcopal.

Look for the final individual rankings early next week and best of luck to all teams at the VISAA Tournament next weekend.
