On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, St. Christopher’s School in Richmond will again host the Rumble on the River, with a twin bill of exciting dual meet action. At 6 PM the Saints, who placed 5th at the 2016 National Preps Tournament, will square off against perennial powerhouse Colonial Forge- winners of the VHSL 6A State Tournament in 2016. After the St. Christopher’s/Colonial Forge dual, the University of Virginia will take on the Patriots of George Mason University in a battle for Virginia collegiate wrestling supremacy.

After a ten year hiatus, Division I wrestling returned to the Richmond area on Friday January 8th, 2016 when UVA and VMI faced off at St. Christopher's School with UVA defeating the Keydets.  The collegiate dual meet followed a high school dual meet between Liberty Christian Academy and St. Christopher's, which the Saints won.  The Rumble on the River was a tradition started by David Brown of Glen Allen and former Saints coach Pete Shaifer in 2003 in an effort to promote collegiate wrestling by hosting a collegiate dual meet in Richmond.  The first Rumble on the River featured the University of Virginia and the Virginia Military Institute, with the Keydets coming out victorious. From 2003-2007, the Rumble was host to UVA, Virginia Tech, UNC, VMI and other area schools. The Cavaliers hold a 4-1 record at the Rumble on the River and participated in all of the Rumbles except for 2006, when North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech. VMI has participated in four Rumbles, posting a 1-3 record.

Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children with all proceeds will go to the Quent Alcorn Scholarship Fund at the University of Virginia that honors the life and legacy of the St. Christopher's wrestling alum and UVA student.  Alcorn was a two-time VISAA State Champion for the Saints, and a leader on and off the mat. There will be a social at the conclusion of the UVA/Mason dual. For more information, please visit the St. Christopher's wrestling team website by clicking here.
