Schoolboy Duals Teams Wrestle Well at National Duals

Team VA Combines for 10-6 Record in Both Styles

The VAWA Schoolboy Duals team traveled to Indianapolis, IN to compete in the USA Wrestling National Duals held June 8-12, 2016 at Warren Central HS. The team posted identical 5-3 records in Greco Roman and freestyle, finishing 3rd and 2nd in the Bronze/Copper pools. Carson Manville (120 lbs.), and Chaz Keen (175 lbs.) led the way for Team Virginia, finishing undefeated in both styles. Sam Fisher (160 lbs.) went 7-1 in both styles, while Jayden Walker (144 lbs.) went 6-2 in Greco and 7-1 in freestyle. 

Greco Roman

Team Virginia opened the Schoolboy Duals Greco tournament by defeating Indiana Blue (63-17). The team then lost to Colorado Red 53-22 in the semi-finals of their pool to drop into the consolation bracket. Virginia bounced back with dominating 72-6 win over Georgia Blue before losing to Minnesota 2 in the third place match 37-34. 

The team moved into the Bronze/Copper Pool for day two of Greco and finished in 3rd place. After losing their first round match to Oklahoma Red 43-33, Virginia won three matches in a row: defeating Arizona (49-22), Indiana Gold (45-29), and New York (43-31) for an overall record of 5-3.

Freestyle

Virginia posted a 2-2 record to finish in 4th place in their opening pool in freestyle by defeating New York (55-19)  and Utah (53-23). The team dropped very close duals to Washington (43-33) and Missouri (37-37) to move into the Bronze/Copper pool.

The team went 3-1 and finished 2nd in the Bronze/Copper pool, beating Michigan Red (49-28), Iowa Blue (45-31), and Georgia Red (51-27). Virginia dropped their final match to Ohio by a 38-37 score to finish with an overall freestyle record of 5-3.
