UVA vs VMI & St. Chris vs LCA

After a ten year hiatus, Division I wrestling will return to the Richmond area on Friday January 8th when UVA and VMI will face off at St. Christopher's School.  The collegiate dual meet will follow a high school dual meet between Liberty Christian Academy and St. Christopher's.  The Rumble on the River was a tradition started by David Brown of Glen Allen and former Saints coach Pete Shaifer in an effort to promote collegiate wrestling by hosting a collegiate dual meet in Richmond.  In the 2000s, the Rumble was host to UVA, Virginia Tech, UNC, VMI and other area schools.

VMI is coming off of a hard fought  23-18 road win over Sacred Heart on January 2nd.  Through the midpoint in the 2015-16 campaign, the Keydets are lead by senior Emmitt Kelly at 149 pounds and juniors Shabaka Johns and Dalton Henderson at 165 and 125 pounds respectively.  Starters Neal Richards II and Benjamin Pachello lead a strong freshman class of fifteen Keydets that has the VMI coaching staff excited about the future of the program.

Virginia is on the heels of an eighth place finish at the Southern Scuffle held at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga in Chattanooga, TN.  UVA wrestlers George DiCamillo and Zach Nye lead the way as the Cavaliers’ two placewinners.  Fourth-ranked DiCamillo finished in third place, while 10th-ranked Nye finished in fifth place at the prestigious event.  Outside of the NCAA Championships, the Southern Scuffle is considered to be the toughest and deepest college tournament in the country.

Admission will be $5 for adults and all proceeds will go to the Quent Alcorn scholarship fund at the University of Virginia that honors the life and legacy of the St. Christopher's wrestling alum and UVA student.
