Notes from the (VAWA) General Membership Meeting September 16, 2012

Virginia to move to tiered membership

You now have three options for membership in USA Wrestling in the Commonwealth. We will be offering a $15 Folkstyle Membership which will be good for all USAW sanctioned folkstyle events in Virginia. A $40 Full Membership which will allow you to participate in events in all styles and levels (local, state, regional, and national). We will also offer a $100 High Performance Membership which features all types of benefits from USA Wrestling. Follow this link for more information.

 

 

Schedule Highlights

New Youth Event

VAWA and the Maryland State Wrestling Association will be hosting the Virginia-Maryland States which will pit the top three wrestlers from each state against each other in a championship tournament. This tournament will feature four age groups 14 and under, 12 and under, 10 and under, and 8 and under and will be held at Hayfield High School on March 17, 2013. Look for more details to be posted soon.

 

VAWA Youth Folkstyle State Championships

This event will be held at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond on Saturday February 23, 2013. Event details will be posted on VirginiaWrestling.com very soon.

 

VAWA Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships

We will be holding the Kids, Cadet, and Junior State Championship together at one site this year. This event will be held May 4-5, 2013 at Hermitage High School in Richmond. Please check VirginiaWrestling.com in the near future for a tournament flier.

New Board Members

VAWA would like to welcome some new Board members: Bill Swink is the new the state chairman, Rick Jones is the new VP of Operations, Jim Diehl is the VP of Officials, Daryl Weber was elected as the Member at Large to the Executive Board, Bryan Hazard retains his position as Coaches Director, and Matt Keel was elected as the Scheduling Director.

VAWA would like to thank past Chairman Roy Hill for his many years of dedication and commitment to Virginia USA Wrestling and to VAWA. Roy’s work ethic and vision for these organizations have helped improve the culture of Virginia wrestling for wrestlers of all ages and skill levels. Roy will continue to serve on the Executive Board and look for him wearing Blue and blowing a whistle on the mats in the spring and summer. Thank you Roy for making Virginia wrestling better!
