Yes, the new coach is a high school teammate of the current A.D. Absolutely no surprise there.
Oh...and that "dedicated middle school program"? I don't even know if that exists anymore. It was started by the previous coach last season, run through the rec. dept., and staffed by volunteers who were former wrestlers and the father of the previous coach. I highly doubt you'll be seeing any of them run the program in the future. Maybe some BHS people can come in and run the middle school program for RHS?
And that "brand new wrestling room"...thank the former coach for that. He's lobbied for one for years. He is the one instrumental in the new coach having it. The only time RHS had a wrestling room was one year under Hugh Pendleton. Since then the administration and the a.d.'s all ignored wrestling and provided neither the team nor the coach with any support in any way.
I hope all of the former wrestlers return. Coach strongly encouraged them to do so. He wants them to do well and continue to grow as responsible and honorable young men. He's been a class act publicly about the whole thing---despite the classless way he was treated.

Cry me a river. I am impressed that any high school administration cares enough about the sport of wrestling to fire a coach to better the program. If the former coach was good enough to whine this much about him he should be able to land a coaching job easily next year somewhere else. Bottom line is it's over. The AD was my son's former coach and knows what it takes to build a program. Rustburg has never been known for having a good or even decent wrestling team, in fact they usually have a lot of girl wrestlers from what I have seen. 3 years ago they only won one match in a dual vs. our hs team and we were terrible that year. Good luck to the new coach, and I expect to see good things in the near future.
And as for the comment about 'class', you won't find a wrestling family with a better reputation for character and class than the Shulers.
