Ok, so I was bored and put this together based on last year's state brackets.
Let me know of any obvious mistakes. I tried to go exactly by the bracekts, and head-to-head matches once I got past place-finishers. However, I could have missed a few for sure.
I just felt like trying to get some discussion started. Anyone interested?
Here you go...

Very glad you did this Coach been waiting for something like this as I am too busy and lazy to do it myself. So thank you.
I see a couple of things, maybe not considered so obvious as mistakes, only things to consider, right off the bat, I notice the weight classes, with the changes from 135 to 138 it makes me wonder if the returning champs and placers from 130 will all move up to 138 as they grow? if the will all make the cut to 130 as the extra 3lbs my change their minds about moving up? mainly if the champs try to stay away from one another, this weight class is just one instance off the top of my head where I wonder how the weight class changes will impact the season. I also noticed that Grundy is not averaged in...I know you used last years A state tournament results, which again I appreciate seeing in this list, but once you add Grundy you've got to think things change dramatically. I don't think they return a ton of proven talent, but I know they've got McClanahan who I think will be the OW of the A state tournament next year. They've also got Street who is a 2X AA top 4 placer (also was a takedown away from the AA state finals last year) other than that there are no placers from Grundy. But they do have Compton who is a junior and has been on the cusp of placing in AA when he wrestled at 103 two years ago, I think he is a title contender in A. Also Smith of Grundy with a year under his belt.

Yes, factoring Grundy in will change things. However, since I just went by last year's brackets, I didn't factor anyone in.
I also know there will be several freshmen and transfers that will have immediate impact on the A scene.
So once those are all in the "rankings" they should be pretty ready to start adjusting for our first pre-season set.
The weight changes are also key in determining the rankings. Everything will start to unfold as the season approaches. I just put this out to start discussion, and to see if anyone wanted to start throwing out known weights for some of the wrestlers. Getting everything as accurate as possible makes for better rankings, earlier in the season.
Often, people keep weights a mystery, or they keep their line-ups secret until they absolutely have to reveal them. I see their strategies, but that definitely has hurt the rankings year after year. I have tried to do the rankings as accurately as I could the last few years, but programs change their weights so many times, or so "last second" it is that much more difficult to be so accurate.
Regardless, I hope this starts the A discussion towards next season. It really isn't that far away! I can't wait! Start training!

Ok, so I added what I think are all of the returning finishers and qualifiers from Grundy's team of 2010-2011. If you guys have information, post it. We can take our time and try to get things as ready as possible for accurate pre-season rankings.
One favor, if you have information, please, list the FACTS about why you are saying something. Please, do NOT just get on here and ramble about how someone should be ahead of another person, but have nothing to support the claim.
And I know it is early, but I think this is a great way to get feedback necessary for better pre-season, and regular season rankings. Let's start some discussion!

One thing I noticed and the only thing so far that I've had the time is that you don't have Trey Smith of Grundy listed, I can not remember the kids name, but I believe he was from Coeburn? and placed either 3rd or 4th in the A state in 2010 and 2011, he graduated this past season, anyway I do believe Smith beat him in the Finals of the Aggie Skeens at Grundy. So I'd throw Smith in there at around 125 at about #3 on the list...just a guess on the weight since he was at 119 last season, and since he beat the #3 or #4 (can't remember which) state placer of last year during the regular season.

Hey Coach, Just poking around and wanted to let you know that it helps if you take a look a particularly strong weight from any given region and it would be safe to find out who got 5th and add them in somewhere. I have lost track over time with what regions are strongest now days but this used to help me with the early rankings.
Also, unless Tomlin beat Street somewhere already then I would DEFINATELY give him (Street) the nod over Tomlin.
Manassas Park has another Rodriguez brother that is dynamite. Neither one however will see 106#. I have been seeing them both in Summer tournaments and they are both way to big.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am sure I could find out some of the 5th place region finishers, but it would be even easier if people "in the know" from each region could post that information.
You guys know a LOT more than me about 5th place finishers in each region worthy of a ranking.
Also, I know the consensus will be that Street (Grundy) is #1, and he may be. However, at least for right now, I have a problem putting him over a returning state finalist. Tomlin deserves some pre-season respect. I am sure if it needs to be changed, it will be.
And, I know there are plenty of "Rodriguez" type newcomers that will have impact on the A scene. However, I am not going to be adding them to my rankings until they have proven themselves. If someone can provide some summer results where a newcomer beat someone in the rankings, then I would consider adding them too. I think it's the only fair thing to do.
I also hear Mudd about the Trey Smith kid from Grundy. I don't see him in the state brackets. Did he not qualify? If not, I will add him once we get close to the season, and the weights and rankings start to get more organized. Right now, they are simply based on the brackets from A and AA last year. I feel like it is too early to do much more.
That being said, it is not too early, if people know the facts, to post if you know weights of where some of these guys are going.
I would really like to see these rankings be where they should. The ONLY way to do that is for people to post the information they KNOW to be true...not demands, not opinions and not "wish" lists. I have no problem with criticism. However, provide factual informtaion to back up the criticism. Show me why an individual, or a weight is improperly ranked, not just that it is, and that the rankings are horrible. That does NOTHING positive to help the rankings. Do something that helps the rankings.
Once that happens, the rankings will be more than just entertainment. Until that happens, ALWAYS look at the rankings as only partially genuine. Because, until people do more to make them more, that is all they will be...partial.
Thanks.
Coach

I currently do not have any factual information to provide, but a possible suggestion. I believe there will be new weights this year so we may want to start moving the rankings into the new weights.

Agreed. I plan on doing that soon. I just wanted to get this out to begin discussion.
Thanks again for the suggestions. They can only help.

Just a heads up on somethings. JJ Kelly and Pound will now be Central High School. Powell Valley and Appalachia will now be Union High School. Coeburn and St.Paul will now be Eastside High School.
Just thought i would let you all know this if you didn't already know.
