Every year at this time posters site the allegations of "recruiting" by some schools in VA. And I know my kids names have come up in those discussions. I will not get into my family's personal reasons for moving from NJ on this site. Many of you know me and my family. I will be at the state tournament cheering on CBurg and other folks we have met over the years. I will also be at UVA for the ACC tmt as well. If you wish to discuss my personal family issues as to our move to VA, I will be happy to discuss.
As for why would you move to CBurg...the answer while simple, and plentiful. I will elaborate:
1. I coached kids at all levels in numerous sports for numerous years. I have either met or witnessed coaches from all over the country handling kids and teams. In my opinion from years of experience, Daryl Weber is unquestionably one of the top 5 high school coaches in the country, period. I entrusted my children to him to help them become the best students and athletes they could become. He did just that, no question.
2. My kids could have gone to Blair, as one poster stated. True; and my youngest son passed the entrance exam his 8th grade year. However, we received no financial assistance from Blair that could afford that opportunity. $32,000 per year was far more than we could afford. Once we decided we wanted to leave our area, we had to look elsewhere.
3. CBurg program offers FAR more opportunity for those wishing to excel in the sport than most clubs. There is the opportunity for national level competition (and recognition), and an off-season schedule second to none.
4. Coaches (head and assistant) willing to work one-on-one, day or night to get your child better, or sit and watch video tapes of their competition to find that little move that can help your kid succeed. The coaches are willing to put in the extra time for your kid's benefit. How many coaches anywhere will do that (rhetorical question, I already know the answer)?
5. CBurg has fostered an environment (if your child is so inclined) where the kids push each other to be the best. How many of your kids got up and had a run with teammate(s) the day after states last year? I know that answer as well. And how many kids came in a week earlier than the coach requested and had captains practice prior to the season starting? How many kids call a teammate at 7:00 pm and ask if they want to have a drill session?
These reasons and many others is why CBurg is an attractive alternative for parents who have the ability and willingness to afford their child an opportunity move to CBurg. You want it to stop? The answer is simple. Instead of complaining, build your program. You get to a certain level, and guess what? You town will be considered an opportune place to live.
BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!!

Christiansburg also offers rooms for wrestlers to live in with the coach. Job offers and money behind the scenes to the wrestlers parents among other things. Poor or no sportsmanship from the fans or wrestlers of Christiansburg. Faling injuries after body slamming opponets into the mats for more favorable state match ups. Oh yeah what a class act Christiansburg is. Ive seen more class on a pig farm.

The "recruiting" thing came up long ago when the infamous Kevin Dresser was there, some say it started with Tony, who knows. I completely understand why a man would move his family to that area and would want to give his son(s) an opportunity to wrestle under that coaching staff in that room, the thing I think a lot of people get upset over, and have a hard time understanding (my self included in this part) is how do say 4 kids that are state champion caliber and their families decide to move into that area in the same year? I'm not arguing to not do it and I'm not saying that in your shoes I would turn it down. I'm only saying that while I understand why you would move there, I also understand why other families across the state question the way and frequency of it happening.

Really enjoy watching your boys wrestle both in high school and college. They seem to be fine young men.Posted 2 years ago # - -
