As part of its commitment to promote and grow wrestling, USA Wrestling, with support from NFL superstar Roddy White, has created a poster that encourages football players to participate in wrestling.

The headline on the new poster says “Roddy White is a great pro football player… because of the training he went through as a wrestler.” It shows a photo of Roddy White in the wrestling room at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, wearing a USA Wrestling warmup, holding a football helmet with the USA Wrestling logo and balancing a football.

USA Wrestling has developed this 11”x17” poster which is available at no charge to the general public via the internet. The poster can be downloaded as a pdf file, and brought to a local printer for reproduction. It also can be customized with contact information for local wrestling clubs and school programs. Greater Washington Wrestling Business Network Holds First Gathering

The inaugural meeting of the Greater Washington Wrestling Business Network (GWWBN) met at the Tower Club last night in Tysons Corner, Virginia. The event was sponsored by the Meltzer Benefit Group.
There were 200 former wrestlers in attendance at the event, along with current college coaches from American, Maryland, George Mason, Minnesota and Virginia Tech.

GWWBN is a non-profit group formed to mobilize the wrestling community for business, social and personal purposes in a proactive fashion to support and prosper.
The group did just that with the theme of the evening being to completely engage the business community to support wrestling, while showing the economic impact that these former wrestlers who are now leaders have. The goal is to mobilize the group to not only support each other in business but to also give back to the sport.

THANK YOU Maryland, American, George Mason and Navy

“This was just the best,” Austin Jones said as the coaches finished the first day of clinic. “We had more great clinicians working with us than you’d find at any clinic in America,” another young wrestler spoke up. “I now know I want to stay local when I go to college,” a third one shared.

These were just a few of dozens of positive remarks the Metro area’s collegiate programs received this past Saturday and Sunday at the 2nd annual free Collegiate Clinic 4 You. Held at Wootton high school in Rockville and Woodson high school in Fairfax, over 350 young men and women were enthralled for 10 hours of technique, humor and friendship.

“I’m so excited I got to meet Kerry McCoy”, said one of the wrestler’s mothers. “He’s been one of my favorite wrestlers for years. I hope my son selects Maryland in a couple of years as a place to go to school and wrestle.”

For two days the four head coaches of the areas collegiate programs and their assistants donated their time so the athletes of the local wrestling community could learn a little more, not only about the schools they represent but themselves as well during the two afternoons. .. read more »
